The future of the EU sugar regime questionned Since
November, 2004, this platform, whose members are, to date, Austrian,
Belgian, Dutch, French, Italian, and Spanish (see list
of members), has adopted a common position on the issue of reform
of the EU sugar regime: regulation of agricultural markets is essential,
prohibiting dumping and enabling developing countries to export at preferential
prices to the EU market. The Common Agricultural Policy should support
sustainable family farming in the EU with remunerative farmgate prices
and supply management. These general rules should, in particular, guide
the European Commission in its proposals for the reform of the sugar
market in the EU.
